Possible Run for Governor by Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill may have some competition on the horizon.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, known for his role on “Jersey Shore,” has suggested that he might consider a run for governor of New Jersey in 2029.
While he hasn’t disclosed his political affiliation, he did provide a hint that caught attention: “I think the people of New Jersey want to see their property taxes eliminated.”
His interest in politics emerged during the launch party for Vue magazine in Wall Township, where he and his wife Lauren graced the cover.
In discussing his ambitions, Sorrentino mentioned his goal of expanding his drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, Archangels, which is based in Tinton Falls. He expressed that he aims to open centers in all 50 states before pursuing a political career. “We want to create an Archangel Center in each of the 50 states. And after that, I’ll introduce you to the governor’s situation,” he shared.
Fame came to Sorrentino through the “gym, tan, laundry” ethos showcased on “Jersey Shore,” a show known for its party-centric lifestyle. Yet, his journey hasn’t been without challenges. After the show ended, he faced significant legal issues related to an $8.9 million tax evasion case, which he later admitted to. This resulted in an eight-month federal prison sentence.
Sorrentino’s earlier ventures included businesses such as salons, though one tanning club closed after he struggled with overdue rent payments, as reported by NJ.com.
He’s spoken openly about his personal battles, particularly regarding his prior drug addiction. “Years ago, I vowed that one day I would have the power and resources to help those who still struggle with addiction, just as I once did, and I still do,” Sorrentino stated during the opening of Archangel last November.
Interestingly, while Sorrentino hails from Staten Island, Governor Sherrill’s background is also set apart; she’s originally from Virginia and not a lifelong resident of New Jersey.
