Jessica Simpson Reflects on Eight Years of Sobriety

Jessica Simpson is celebrating a significant milestone—eight years of sobriety. The 45-year-old pop star took to social media on Saturday to mark the occasion, highlighting the darker aspects of her past with alcoholism that nearly hindered her dreams.

In her Instagram post, accompanied by a selfie, she wrote, “Eight years ago today, I chose to face, confess, and let go of the self-destructive parts of my life. By making that decision, I was able to live fully in pursuit of God’s purpose for my life.”

Simpson reflected on how alcohol impacted her life, stating, “Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams, and chased away the cyclical fear of complacency.” She emphasized the importance of faith over fear, saying she is now driven by clear feelings instead of confusion.

Earlier this year, in an interview with a publication, Simpson spoke about the positive changes sobriety has brought to her personal and artistic life. She mentioned feeling “a little scared” during her drinking days, particularly when writing songs. “There were songs I never released because they just didn’t feel like me,” she recalled. “But once I stopped drinking, the fear dissipated, and it became much easier to access my artistic self.”

Her shift in focus was not just about creating hits; rather, it was about forging a vibe that felt authentic to her. She noted that she wanted to break away from the cookie-cutter approach prevalent in the music scene today.

Simpson has been vocal about her journey, especially following her separation from ex-husband Eric Johnson after ten years of marriage. In her statements, she emphasized that their children come first and expressed gratitude for the support they received during a challenging time.

Reflecting on her sobriety journey, Simpson remembers the day she decided to stop drinking. “On November 1, 2017, I felt like an unrecognizable version of myself,” she shared. She recognized the need for profound self-discovery, realizing that stopping drinking was essential for her growth and clarity.

“I wanted to feel the pain and carry it around like a badge of honor,” she added. “Today, I can say I love myself and respect my power. The real challenge was coming to terms with my failures, heartbreaks, and self-destructive tendencies. Drinking wasn’t the problem—I was.” This revelation marks a new chapter in her life, one filled with hope and determination.
