Jessica Simpson Reflects on Eight Years of Sobriety
Jessica Simpson recently marked the significant milestone of eight years sober, sharing her journey on Instagram. In her post, she described it as a transformative decision that allowed her to confront and release the harmful patterns in her life.
“Eight years ago today, I made the choice to confront, confess, and let go of the self-destructive parts of my life choices,” she wrote, accompanied by a cheerful selfie.
Simpson explained that her past struggles with alcohol had stifled her intuition and dreams, pushing her into a cycle of fear. “Alcohol silenced my intuition,” she stated, reflecting on how it affected her life.
“Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith,” she added, emphasizing the importance of choosing faith over fear. She expressed gratitude for finding strength through surrender rather than conflict.
In light of her separation from husband Eric Johnson earlier this year, the singer is now returning to music after a lengthy break. She mentioned that her sobriety has contributed to her songwriting process, explaining how being sober has enabled her to be more truthful in her music.
Simpson candidly shared her past relationship with alcohol, revealing how it intensified her feelings of self-pity while writing music in 2016. “I don’t know why I wanted to feel sorry for myself,” she reflected, recognizing that alcohol had deceived her into thinking it made her brave.
She concluded that without alcohol, she feels more authentic and confident, stating, “I actually believe in myself more without alcohol.” Instead of avoiding emotions, she has learned to confront them directly.
Previously in her memoir, Simpson shared that her decision to quit drinking was influenced by an incident where she was too intoxicated to help her children with their Halloween costumes. “I was scared they would see me like that,” she confessed, a moment that sparked her journey toward sobriety.
This candid reflection reveals not just her personal growth but also the changes in her approach to life and her family.
