Jessie James Decker reveals what convinced her NFL star husband to marry her

Jessie James Decker’s Recipe for Love

Jessie James Decker has a unique way of winning hearts, and apparently, it involves a bit of culinary flair. The country artist shared how she wooed her husband, Eric Decker, after just a single weekend together — thanks to her delicious jambalaya.

In an interview, Jessie revealed, “I mean, we all know he loves the jambalaya—that’s how I sealed the deal and had him fall in love with me after one weekend.” Seems like food really does have a way of bringing people together.

Even after more than 13 years of marriage, Eric remains one of Jessie’s biggest supporters in the kitchen. Jessie insists that in their family, food isn’t merely sustenance; it’s more like a love language.

“I couldn’t have married someone that didn’t just enjoy food,” she stated emphatically. “There are people out there who treat meals as, you know, just a meal. But for me, it’s an event. It’s a celebration.” That’s quite a passionate take on dining.

When they first met, Eric was, as Jessie put it, “a Midwestern guy” who hadn’t experienced the delights of Southern Cajun cuisine. Now, things have changed; he’s embraced these flavors wholeheartedly, especially after exploring the “Cajun Queen” chapter in Jessie’s new cookbook, “The Secret Sauce,” co-authored with her mother and sister.

Jessie noted, “I would say the ‘Cajun Queen’ chapter is probably one of his favorites,” reflecting on her upbringing, where Cajun food was a staple. It’s all about flavor, after all.

Of course, as with many couples, there are nuances. Jessie mentioned that while Eric is a great taste tester, he tends to be a bit diplomatic about his opinions. “He’ll just be like, ‘It’s good, it’s good,'” she chuckled, explaining he often asks a question instead of bluntly voicing disapproval.

In a humorous twist, Eric’s support for Jessie has taken a cheeky turn. He’s even posed nude, using nothing but her cookbook as coverage, during a promotional video that made some lighthearted puns about cooking.

Meanwhile, family traditions remain sacred despite their hectic lives, which include four children with busy schedules. For Jessie, family dinner time is non-negotiable. “I’ll always protect sitting down together at the dinner table, eating, and just chatting about our day,” she expressed.

This ritual, which includes bread and oil on the table and, well, Denver’s endless requests for more butter, is one of Jessie’s highlights. “Those moments will forever be my favorite,” she shared, savoring the togetherness that comes from these dinners.

In her fourth cookbook, “The Secret Sauce,” Jessie shares cherished family recipes and traditions, celebrating their Southern, Sicilian, and Cajun heritage. Yet, cooking with family isn’t always about following the rules strictly.

Her sister, Sydney, humorously noted that Jessie tends to create a bit of chaos in the kitchen, often straying from recipes for a more personalized touch. Their mother, Karen, added that the family once viewed their recipes as closely guarded secrets but realized that sharing them was vital.

In the end, the hope is that those who try out these recipes will establish their own family traditions. “These may have been our family’s traditions, but now they belong to you,” Karen said.

“The Secret Sauce” is available now, and perhaps, just perhaps, it might inspire a few more love stories along the way.
