Jet2 Vacation Takes Unfortunate Turn
Two flights set to take off for Spain started their journeys without any passengers, causing more than 30 individuals to be stranded in the UK.
An airline spokesperson stated, “This matter is being urgently and thoroughly investigated with the airport.”
Flight LS879 was supposed to depart from Manchester for the sunny island of Alicante at 7 a.m. on Monday morning, as reported.
Unfortunately, the hopeful travelers found themselves in a confusing situation after presenting their boarding passes. Instead of stepping onto the jetway, they ended up taking the wrong stairs that led to a dead end.
This misstep left over 35 passengers stuck in a cul-de-sac for nearly 40 minutes, trying to make sense of what was going on.
One of the travelers, Matt from Denton, shared how he and his son arrived at the airport with ample time but soon found themselves in a chaotic situation.
“Instead of boarding the plane, we saw some stairs and thought we were all following each other down,” he recounted.
He expected that an airport worker would assist them or that a shuttle would be waiting to take them directly to the aircraft.
“I was there for 10, 20, 30 minutes thinking, ‘What is going on?’” he exclaimed, recalling how surreal and frustrating it felt. “We were literally stuck like caged animals.”
As passengers speculated about the delay, the plane took off without them, embarking on a 2 hour and 45 minute journey to Alicante.
Matt realized the situation was dire when an airport staff member informed him that the flight had already left.
He expressed his disbelief at the fact that no one had counted passengers before takeoff. “It’s odd,” he said. “You would expect the captain to check if the plane was full.”
In the meantime, the stranded group received $13 vouchers while waiting for alternative travel arrangements. “I think this is a first for me,” he lamented.
Airline representatives stated they are looking into the incident and arranged for passengers to board other flights to their desired destination. “Our team took care of these customers yesterday by arranging another flight to Alicante. We sincerely apologize to them,” they noted.
