A rapper involved in the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd appeared cheerful in a Manhattan courtroom on Wednesday. Meanwhile, prosecutors reported that the football player remained unconscious in his hospital bed.
Frederick Green, 20, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder following the Nov. 16 incident, which left Boyd in critical condition. He smiled broadly and showed a fist pump to supporters in the Manhattan Supreme Court.
Assistant District Attorney Shilpa Kalra mentioned that Boyd had undergone surgery a few weeks prior. Although he has made some recovery, he was still hospitalized as of less than a week ago but is currently in stable condition.
The incident reportedly began around 2 a.m. when Green and his associates allegedly provoked Boyd and his teammates, Jamian Sherwood and Irvin Charles, who were out wearing flashy outfits at Say Less, an Asian fusion restaurant on West 38th Street.
Kalra described how an altercation outside the venue escalated, stating, “It spread to a block and then disappeared.” She added that video evidence showed Green wearing a mask.
Not long after, a new argument broke out, which turned into a “scuffle,” according to the prosecutors.
During this confrontation, there was some pushing, but no other weapons were reported, Kalra informed Justice Gregory Caro.
However, the situation escalated when Green allegedly drew a firearm, and the muzzle flash was captured on tape. “The defendant fires two shots directly at the victim,” Kalra asserted.
One bullet struck Boyd’s pulmonary artery; Kalra noted he was still undergoing surgery months later.
Following the shooting, Green, a drill rapper known as Tbo Zay, reportedly fled the scene in a white BMW.
The next day, he allegedly went to Buffalo, where he tried to evade the police by cutting his hair, deleting his social media profiles, and disabling his phone. These efforts were unsuccessful. He was eventually apprehended by law enforcement at his girlfriend’s apartment a few weeks later.
Boyd, who is 5-foot-11, joined the Jets in 2025 after previous stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.
Green’s next court date is set for April 22nd.
