Jets GM Confident in Justin Fields’ Growth

Jets general manager Darren Moogie is optimistic that quarterback Justin Fields will find success later in his career, similar to some recent drafted quarterbacks.

“I really think Justin can be one of those guys,” Moogie mentioned on Thursday. He acknowledged noticing progress during camp and is eager to watch the team progress throughout the season. Three years is a significant timeframe for development—time is key.

Moogie pointed out that Fields has shown improvement, particularly in leading his offense.

“I’ve observed his daily growth. In the past week, we’ve seen a solid rhythm in practice, with a well-rounded offense that includes both passing and running plays. But more importantly, he’s showing better control, leadership, and engagement. That kind of growth has been encouraging,” he added.

The Jets signed Fields to a two-year contract worth $40 million in the offseason after he spent last year with the Steelers, having transitioned from the Bears three seasons prior.

Recently, the Jets also named team captains, choosing Fields along with WR Garrett Wilson, RG Alijah Vera-Tucker, DT Quinnen Williams, LB Jamien Sherwood, and Special Teamer Marcelino McCrary-Ball. Notably, Williams is the only captain from last season.

Robbie Patong, the team’s HR director, expressed enthusiasm about new player Arian Smith’s potential. He shared, “I’ve been really excited about him from OTAs through training camp. He seems to be a player eager to make a significant impact as the season begins.”
