Jets’ Struggles Continue with Crushing Loss
The last couple of weeks had given Jets fans some hope.
After an alarming start of 0-7, they managed to turn things around slightly, winning three out of five games leading into their home game against the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
This shift sparked discussions about the better atmosphere rookie head coach Aaron Glenn was creating within the team.
And then came the game.
Unfortunately for the Jets, things quickly went downhill. They suffered a disheartening loss to the Dolphins, finishing 34-10, which brought their record to a disappointing 3-10.
This loss, while not shocking, officially knocked them out of playoff contention.
It’s now been 15 years since the Jets last made the playoffs—10 and a half years straight, in fact. That’s the longest drought in North American sports, placing them tied for the 10th longest in NFL history.
The Jets’ performance was lackluster, showing little drive for that elusive fourth win in six games. Miami’s offense took charge right from the opening whistle.
The Dolphins (6-7) jumped to a 7-0 lead just a couple of minutes into the game, with Tua Tagovailoa connecting on a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle.
In just four plays and 69 yards, Miami’s running back Devon Ashen bulldozed through, setting up the score. It felt almost effortless.
This ease continued throughout the game.
The Jets’ defense allowed a staggering 239 yards along with three touchdowns on 41 rushing attempts against Miami.
Devon Ashen had an impressive 92 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries before leaving with a rib injury. His backup, Jalen Wright, finished with 107 yards and a touchdown as well. Ollie Gordon added another score to cap Miami’s day.
After a three-and-out for the Jets, the Dolphins quickly doubled their lead to 14-0 with Acherne’s 13-yard rushing touchdown, a play where it looked like the Jets defenders were more like spectators.
The Jets turned the ball over again just over a minute later when Tyrod Taylor’s pass bounced off rookie Mason Taylor and was caught by Miami linebacker Tyrell Dotson, setting them up at the Jets’ 29-yard line.
Six plays later, the Dolphins increased their lead to 21-0 with a close-range touchdown from Jalen Wright. He was untouched as he crossed into the end zone—simply inexcusable.
To add to the chaos, Taylor sustained a groin injury after their second possession and didn’t return. That left rookie Brady Cook to step in for his NFL debut.
It was, well, unsurprisingly challenging.
