The Jets have interviewed 13 candidates for the vacant general manager position and nine candidates for the head coaching position, with more candidates expected to be interviewed in the future.
On Tuesday, a 10th candidate for the head coaching position emerged. NFL Network reported He announced that he has requested a meeting with Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.
This will be the first interview for a head coaching position for Whitt, 46, who is in his first year at Washington.
Interestingly, the Jets met with Washington assistant general manager Lance Newmark on Jan. 11 for the team's vacant general manager position.
Washington will play the Lions in the NFC divisional playoff round on Saturday night, so Whitt will not be available for interviews until the Commanders are eliminated from the playoffs.
Whitt joined head coach Dan Quinn in Washington after spending the past three years as the Cowboys' passing game coordinator and secondary coach, where he also worked with Quinn.
Washington ranked 13th in total defense (allowing 327.9 yards per game) and 18th in opponent scoring (23.0 points per game).
