Harvard students and alumni have spoken out after announcing that the university will sues the Trump administration rather than complying with its demands to address anti-Semitism on campus.

Kestenbaum is currently suing Ivy League University, claiming that the school failed to properly address the anti-Semitic complaints and the threat of violence directed at him. Harvard was the flashpoint of an anti-Semitism national crisis that swept university campuses across the United States after the wild terrorist attacks in Hamas on October 7, 2023.
The former Harvard president resigned from her post in January 2024 after accusations of plagiarism and tragic testimony to the House Education Committee. There, he opposed the school’s code of conduct and refused to say whether he would argue that the appeal to commit a massacre against Jews was “context-dependent.”
Shawn Quebeney, a member of the Trump administration’s anti-Semitism task force, wrote to Harvard on April 11, with a list of requests to address anti-Semitism, racial bias, and perspective discrimination that schools felt were bridges. The administration later claimed that the letter was sent by mistake, The New York Times reported.
Among the changes the Trump administration was sought in the letter, Harvard University was engaged in merit-based employment and admission, better implementing student disciplinary policies, better implementing reform programs with a “bad record of anti-Semitism,” and ending all DEI policies.
After Harvard publicly announced it would not acquiesce Trump’s demands, the administration freezes $2.2 billion in federal funding, threatening to cancel the university’s tax-free status, and turned to a freeze on another $1 billion funding.

Harvard filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration on Monday, accusing the White House of threatening its academic independence as part of a “pressure campaign.” The lawsuit accuses the Trump administration of trying to “microcontrol” the university’s decision and violating Harvard’s initial right to amendments by imposing “viewpoint-based conditions” on federal funds.
“The consequences of government overreach will be serious and long-lasting. Research at risk by the government includes efforts to improve the outlook for cancer-surviving children, understand at a molecular level how cancer can spread throughout the body, predict spreading infectious disease outbreaks, stop statements, and relieve the pain of soldiers injured on the battlefield.
A Harvard Jewish sophomore expressed ambiguity in Fox News Digital about the university’s war with the White House. Students say they don’t support the Trump administration’s funding cuts, but believe “Ball remains at Harvard.” He called on schools to adopt “common-sense reforms” to address anti-Semitism and to end the anti-Israel atmosphere that is prevalent in schools.
Standwithus is an organization dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism on university campuses, and claimed that Trump was within the right to fund the university.
Matan Jaffe, a former Harvard Kennedy student, also welcomed the move from the Trump administration.
“Tax exemptions and federal funding are privileges, not rights. There are certainly parameters that guide federal government actions in these issues, but there is a legitimate foundation for revoking the tax-exempt status of universities.”
Jacob Miller, former president of Harvard Hillell and current senior Harvard University, doubts the Trump administration can resolve anti-Semitism issues on campus and says he will praise Gerber for standing up to the administration’s demands.

“We are pleased that Gerber resists Trump’s demands. There certainly is anti-Semitism at Harvard, but it’s hard to see how the latest White House demand list solves the mainly cultural issues of our school,” Miller said.
Israeli entrepreneur Matan Jaffe, who attended Kennedy Government School in 2022, says he encountered anti-Semitic and anti-Israel prejudices from his professors and classmates.
“After taking Harvard University to court with anti-Semiticism and reaching a groundbreaking settlement, I think efforts to hold the university accountable will be necessary and long postponed. President Trump’s pressure campaign highlights a simple truth: elite institutions cannot continue to tolerate hatred towards Jews, and they cannot expect public trust or public funds.
