First lady Jill Biden kicked off Women’s History Month with a campaign event in Georgia on Friday, slamming former President Trump’s treatment of women.
The first lady’s remarks in the Atlanta area led to the launch of Women for Biden, a campaign to mobilize women voters. While Jill Biden touted President Biden’s accomplishments and commitment to protecting reproductive health care, she also took aim at likely Republican nominee Trump.
“He spent a lifetime tearing us apart and devaluing our existence. “He mocks women’s bodies, belittles our accomplishments and boasts of assault,” Biden said. said, the latter pointing to a reference to Trump’s past statements on the “Access Hollywood” tape.
“Now he’s bragging about killing Roe v. Wade,” the first lady said. “Just last night, he again took credit for passing brutal anti-abortion laws in states like Georgia that robbed women of their right to make their own health care decisions. How far will he go? When will he stop? Deaf. You know the answer. He won’t.”
She added: “Donald Trump is a danger to women and our families.”
The comments served as a potential preview of how the first lady will be positioned as a campaign surrogate in the coming months.
The former president said Thursday in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity that he has heard more about the proposed 15-week abortion ban. President Trump said he had not yet decided what he would support, although he did not rule out supporting such a proposal.
As part of her “Women for Biden” initiative, the first lady will speak with women voters in key battleground states such as Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and Wisconsin.
The campaign launched digital ads about her travels to battleground states this week and plans to run more ads targeting women through November.
