A former press secretary for First Lady Jill Biden acknowledged just before CNN’s presidential debate that she doesn’t think Democrats are happy with the state of the Biden campaign so far.
“I don’t think anybody is satisfied right now,” Michael LaRosa told Fox News host Jesse Watters ahead of Thursday night’s debate, when asked if he was “happy” with the state of the Biden campaign today.
“After the first debate four years ago, we saw the data move and change and we knew he would win the debate and probably win. But the mood of the country is so different now and there’s a lot at stake tonight. There’s a lot of pressure on the president. He’s got to pull away at some point.”
“I don’t think anybody feels safe. It’s kind of a coin toss,” LaRosa added.

Earlier this week, LaRosa was vocal about his frustration with the Biden campaign’s ongoing strategy.
“Everything looks and feels so staged, scripted and controlled, and he’s not given the opportunity to use his strengths – his humor, his empathy and his compassion,” LaRosa says. He told The New York Times.

“Empathy is his superpower, but he can only empathize with others when their humanity is revealed – with all its flaws, mistakes and imperfections,” he added.
“Those who have known him for years say he remains the same person at heart… But many, including members of his team, believe the restrictions on his public interactions are intended to protect him from age-related mistakes,” the Times wrote Wednesday.
“There is simmering discontent within the administration among those who believe the president’s aides are shielding him too much from the public eye.”
