The Republican Study Committee (RSC) is adding a familiar face and one of the nation's most popular conservatives.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will rejoin the RSC 10 years after leaving it, Breitbart News exclusively learned Wednesday.
Mr. Jordan, who chaired the RSC in the 112th Congress from 2011 to 2012, added significant conservative realism to the group founded more than half a century ago as the conservative wing of the House Republican Conference.
“I am pleased to welcome back my friend and former RSC Chairman Jim Jordan to the Republican Study Committee,” RSC new Chairman August Pflueger (R-Texas) told Breitbart News exclusively. said in a statement. “Jim’s return adds significant conservative firepower to our already powerful arsenal.
“Together, we will make President Trump's policies a reality and deliver the decisive conservative victory the American people deserve.”
Jordan evolved from establishment agitator to powerful chairman of the Judiciary Committee while maintaining his conservative credentials. Jordan, who is currently one of the most prolific fundraisers for his colleagues, is intentionally working to elect Republicans across the ideological spectrum and will be running for speaker in October 2023. This includes those who oppose his candidacy.
Rejoining the RSC is Jordan's latest move to promote party unity while remaining a top conservative and ally of Donald Trump.
“It's great to be a member of the Republican Investigation Committee,” Jordan said in an exclusive statement to Breitbart News. “Chairman Pflueger will do a great job leading this group of conservatives to advance policies that protect our freedoms, strengthen our national security, and promote economic prosperity for all Americans. I guess.”
In 2015, Jordan and several other conservative colleagues split from the RSC to form the House of Commons Freedom Caucus, partly due to concerns that its membership would swell and push the group towards the centre. .
The much smaller House Freedom Caucus currently has about 35 members and proudly maintains its reputation as the most conservative bloc in the House. But as Donald Trump's emergence as Republican leader ushered in a new era in Washington, the entire House Republican conference shifted significantly to the right.
Mr. Jordan deserves much of the credit for the conference's rightward trajectory, which has increasingly accepted, or at least tolerated, HFC members despite continued hostility from the regime.
Many Liberal Party members maintain membership in both the HFC and RFC. Mr. Jordan will continue to serve as vice chairman of HFC, but has now joined the company.
The RSC has approximately 170 members, but its membership has fluctuated over several conferences.
