Jimmy Kimmel and the Fallout from Tucker Carlson’s Departure
Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night host, isn’t one to shy away from shaming figures he views as less than. In 2023, he responded rather dramatically to the news of Tucker Carlson’s exit from Fox News.
Kimmel appeared almost giddy about Carlson being let go. He remarked, “Tucker couldn’t be reached for comment; he’s already on a plane to Moscow to meet with his manager.”
He added, “Now Tucker can just relax at home, sunbathing and hanging out with that green M&M. Unfortunately, he’s not really helping older viewers think clearly.” It’s a little over the top, but that’s Kimmel, isnt’ it?
Then there was a twist. On the same Wednesday, Kimmel faced his own setback when his show was also canceled by ABC, Disney, and Nexstar, a decision prompted by controversial remarks he made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a left-leaning television host and Turning Point founder.
Nexstar criticized Kimmel’s comments as “aggressive and insensitive at a critical period in our national political discourse,” emphasizing a desire for more respectful discussions.
Roseanne Barr jumped into the fray, reflecting on this irony, saying, “Yeah, imagine an administration pressuring TV networks to fire comedians they don’t like.”
Greg Gutfeld, a host on Fox News, had his own take on Kimmel’s situation. He speculated about Kimmel’s mindset, pointing out, “He didn’t imply that. He said that,” and suggested viewers should tune in to see Kimmel’s response.
He also expressed concern over Kimmel’s apparent cognitive dissonance. “Why is this clever, successful man so wrong? How can he keep living with this kind of denial?” It feels a bit like a dilemma, doesn’t it?
Meanwhile, FCC Chairman Brendan Kerr indicated that Kimmel’s career might be facing serious consequences. He described Kimmel’s remarks as “really sick,” claiming there’s a strong case against Kimmel, ABC, and Disney for spreading misinformation. Kerr noted that Kimmel seemed intent on misrepresenting that Kirk’s alleged assassin could be a right-wing supporter of Trump.
