Jimmy Kimmel Faces Backlash for Remarks on DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel recently attracted significant criticism after he took aim at the newly appointed Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, highlighting his previous job as a plumber.

Kimmel kicked off his comments with a jab, stating, “Don’t worry, President Trump has a whole new generation of thinkers, including the new Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne ‘Chuck Mike Bruce Dave’ Mellon-Marin.” He continued, “Before he became a senator, Markwayne Mullin was a mixed martial artist and, yes, a plumber.” He sarcastically questioned, “Shouldn’t we have plumbers protecting us from terrorism? It worked for Super Mario, so why not?”

He ended with a pointed remark, suggesting, “If Trump will keep picking these unqualified individuals, why not go a step further? Next time, let’s bring in Lil Wayne for Homeland Security!”

Social media users were quick to respond, with many defending Mullin’s background. Several Republican lawmakers condemned Kimmel’s remarks, interpreting them as elitist and disrespectful toward blue-collar workers.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded on social media, asserting, “I prefer plumbers to woke, unfunny comedians.”

Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyoming) added, “The disdain that the Democratic Party and Hollywood elites show toward working-class Americans, those who carry out essential jobs, is shameful. They need assistance.”

Representative Mike Collins (R-Georgia) remarked, “The elites too frequently look down on blue-collar folks. To sneer at someone for being a plumber suggests it’s a lesser profession compared to being a late-night comedian. Trust me, comedy isn’t what it used to be.”

Mullin, who recently received a 54-45 vote for confirmation, took his oath as DHS Secretary on Tuesday.
