Joe Biden enlists Barack Obama, George Clooney, Julia Roberts for star-studded mega fundraiser

Biden’s campaign is inviting former President Barack Obama, George Clooney and Julia Roberts to attend a major star-studded fundraiser in Los Angeles next month, according to campaign officials.

As part of the fundraising campaign, Clooney and Roberts will participate in a contest that will be run using social media, digital ads, email and text messages.

A Biden campaign official said the goal of the contest was to “engage the campaign’s grassroots donors and engage our entire support network.”

Clooney and Roberts will also appear in social media posts and digital ads, and will sign emails and text messages to supporters of President Biden, the person added.

The news, first reported by NBC News, comes as Biden continues to outpace former President Trump’s campaign in fundraising efforts.

The Biden campaign announced in March that it had raised $90 million and ended the first quarter with $187 million and $192 million in cash on hand. Trump’s campaign announced it had about $66 million in revenue in March. The Trump campaign, which merged with the Republican National Committee after Trump became the nominee, ended in March with $93.1 million in cash on hand.

Biden visited San Francisco and Seattle for fundraising events that continued through the weekend. Sources say West Coast Swing raised $10 million.

The trip was announced in conjunction with a $14 million ad buy in May focused on reaching Black, Latino and Asian Americans. The campaign plans to have more than 500 staff and 200 offices open by the end of May.
