Joe Biden ‘Losing Focus’ and ‘Concentration’ at G7 Summit

Diplomatic sources say President Joe Biden has “lost focus and concentration” at the G7 summit and that it’s “embarrassing,” British tabloid The Sun reported on Friday.

The Sun reported on Thursday’s episode, saying Biden was seen walking into the distance in front of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Rotated It brought him back to the group of world leaders watching a skydiving show.

The “worrying confusion” prompted The Sun’s source to question Biden. report:

One person told The Sun: “This is the worst thing ever for him.”

Another official added that while the president had moments of acuity and clarity during the meeting, he appeared to “lose focus” at other times.

Other attendees from several delegations also described Biden’s performance as “embarrassing.”

The incident was also covered in Italy’s largest circulation newspaper, Corriere della Sera.

Viviana Mazza of Corriere della Sera reported:

As G7 leaders watch the performance of the Folgore Brigade’s paratroopers, a video has gone viral of Biden stepping away for a moment and Giorgia Meloni touching his arm as he recalls them. Critics have described it as a “distracted” and “wandering” moment, but supporters have pointed out that in fact he only turned around for a second to compliment one of the paratroopers.

Questions about the age of the 81-year-old president, who is caught up in an exhausting rhythm between international commitments and campaigning, are nothing new to Americans. In a rare interview with Biden for Time magazine last month, the writer noted that following the president into the Oval Office, “his stiff gait, muffled voice and shaky grammar are at odds with the enthusiastic, talkative appearance he had as a senator and vice president.” The Trump campaign has been pretty vocal on this point. A video also went viral of President Biden on the anniversary of the Normandy landings, appearing to try to sit in a chair that wasn’t there, but as the Associated Press pointed out, it was distorted because it was only a partial clip. In the full footage, the American president turns around, looks at the chair, pauses for a moment, then slowly sits down. In other scenes, such as the Juneteenth ceremony at the White House a few days ago, Biden is seen smiling but motionless, a little out of place, while everyone around him dances.

In a recent article published by The Wall Street Journal, Republican lawmakers anonymously shared anecdotes about the 81-year-old US president’s “slowness” and “ease of giving in” during closed-door meetings where they discussed issues such as Ukraine funds and the debt ceiling. During one such meeting in January, the US president “spoke with a faint voice that some found difficult to hear, was silent for long periods, and closed his eyes for long enough to make some wonder if he was still in tune,” the authors wrote. Biden’s spokesman Andrew Bates characterized the Republicans’ comments as “politically motivated” and said that foreign leaders, experts, and even his fellow Republicans in Congress recognize Biden as a “skilled leader” and that if he happens to tell the same story again, he has always done so even before he turned 81.

A Harvard-Harris poll conducted in December found that about a third of Democrats have doubts about Biden’s mental health, and another poll found that 82% of Americans are concerned about Biden’s physical and mental health.
