Joe Biden makes first comments after Hunter found guilty on felony gun charges
In his first comments since his son Hunter was convicted of firearms charges by a federal jury in Delaware on Tuesday, President Biden said he and his wife, Jill, love their “son” Hunter.
“I’m a president, but I’m also a father,” Biden reiterated in a statement, adding that he was “so proud of this man.” [Hunter] is today.
“I understand that many families who have had a loved one struggle with addiction feel a sense of pride when they see their loved one overcome addiction and become so strong and tenacious in their recovery,” the 81-year-old commander-in-chief continued.

He added: “As I said last week, I accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Mr. Hunter considers his appeal.”
Hunter, 54, faces up to 25 years in prison after being convicted of three charges related to knowingly making false statements about his crack cocaine addiction on a federal firearms purchase application to buy a .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver on Oct. 12, 2018.
The president echoed similar sentiments at the start of the trial last week, saying he and his wife love their son and are “very proud of the person he has become.”

“Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he brought to his recovery are inspiring,” Biden added, “Many of our families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we’re talking about.”
“As a father, I have endless love and trust for my son and respect for his strength,” he emphasized.

“Our family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I will continue to offer Hunter and our family our love and support.”
Hunter Biden’s mother-in-law, Jill Biden, attended every day of the trial in Wilmington, Delaware, except for one day, June 6, when she missed the hearing to fly to France with her husband to participate in the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
However, Gill missed the verdict being read in court on Tuesday – apparently surprised by how quickly the jury reached its decision.
