Recently Released Tapes Reveal Biden’s Admission About Classified Documents
Newly surfaced recordings between former President Joe Biden and his ghostwriter from 2017 have shown that he acknowledged keeping classified documents and also struggled with memory issues.
The tapes were released as part of a lawsuit driven by Mike Howell from the Surveillance Project, who has been advocating for their disclosure for years. Biden’s legal team initially resisted releasing the tapes but eventually withdrew their motion, leading to the recordings becoming public. The transcripts include conversations with Mark Zwonitzer, Biden’s ghostwriter for the memoir titled Promise Me, Dad.
Mike Howell commented, “We now know what has long been assumed: The autopen scandal goes back far beyond just when Joe Biden ran for president from his basement.” He added that the recordings are filled with pauses that make it sound like Biden is buffering, much like an old dial-up internet connection.
In total, the recordings last for two hours and 45 minutes. They depict Biden’s struggles with memory as he navigates long silences while trying to recall specific dates, events, and names.
At one point, Biden muses, “I think I went to the memorial service in Wilmington. It said this. It’s December 4th, but I don’t know — I know what this means…” His thoughts trail off as he grapples with recalling details.
In another fragment, he admits, “I’ll try to think of his name… I’ll have to write down the name because I’ll forget it.” He also casually warns Zwonitzer about the sensitive nature of the information they are discussing: “Please be careful, some of this material may be classified.”
Biden recalls finding classified documents in his home back in 2009, stating, “So this is where I found all the classified stuff downstairs early on.” He continues, “The next thing I know here is… this is classified…”
This context surrounds an ongoing investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Hur, who looked into Biden’s handling of classified documents. According to reports, Hur concluded that Biden had “intentionally” retained these documents but ultimately chose not to prosecute due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
Howell characterized Biden’s demeanor: a “sympathetic, well-meaning, older man with a poor memory.” During the discussions, Biden appeared unable to recall key moments, like when he declared his candidacy or when he served as vice president.
Howell also highlighted the numerous redactions in the transcripts, suggesting they imply that Biden was inadvertently revealing classified information. “At several points on the tape, Biden hints that the information he is discussing might be classified, and significant portions of the audio files have been edited accordingly,” Howell noted.
The group emphasized that listeners should pay attention to the audio edits, as they were made to conceal sensitive information being disclosed.
Audio recordings can be accessed through various sources for those interested.
