Joe Biden is working with the Clintons to help.
They plan to attend a fundraiser in Virginia next month.
President Biden and former President Clinton are planning to work together at a major fundraiser in downtown Washington in late June, hosted by former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, Axios has learned.
Why it matters: The event will be the third iteration of a successful fundraising formula: a night with two (or three) Democratic presidents for one fee.
The event, scheduled for June 18, follows a “Three Presidents” extravaganza in New York in April and an event hosted by George Clooney featuring Biden, Clinton and former presidents Obama scheduled for mid-June in Los Angeles. The New York event brought in $26 million for Biden’s reelection effort.
In addition to Biden and Clinton, First Lady Jill Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are also scheduled to attend, according to people familiar with the matter.
This comes as Biden faces pressure to maintain his fundraising lead.
Trump outperformed Biden in April.
But Biden is facing pressure to maintain his lead after the Trump campaign received $76 million in donations in April compared with $51 million for the Biden campaign.
The fundraising totals are a reversal from March, when Biden and the Democratic National Committee raised about $90 million, compared with $65.6 million raised by Trump and the Republican National Committee. Biden still has more cash on hand than Trump, with his campaign and affiliated committees having $192 million.
While Biden has consistently outraised Trump in monthly fundraising, Trump’s April total was boosted by a record $50.5 million the former president’s campaign raised at a single event for top Republican donors at the Palm Beach, Florida, home of billionaire investor John Paulson earlier that month.
