A YouGov poll this week found President Joe Biden is uncertain about three key issues facing voters in 2024, raising red flags about his chances of re-election.
Americans cite inflation and rising prices (21%), illegal and legal immigration (16%), and jobs and the economic downturn (9%) as their top three issues.
Biden’s approval rating is below 50% on the three issues of greatest concern.
- Inflation/Prices: 32% support – 61% disapprove
- Immigration: 30% approve – 59% disapprove
- Employment and the economy: 41% approve – 51% disapprove
Overall, just 40% of Americans approve of Biden’s performance, well below the 50% threshold historically required for incumbents to win re-election.
The poll also asked respondents, “Regardless of your preference, who do you think would win the presidential election if Joe Biden were the Democratic nominee and Donald Trump was the Republican nominee?”
Less than a quarter of independents said Biden would beat former President Donald Trump, and only three-quarters of Democrats predicted a Biden victory.
