Joe Buck will probably have the last laugh on this one.
ESPN sportscasters had fun with online trolls Sunday during the Chiefs' AFC Championship win over the Bills, even though critics were off the mark on the facts.
“Of course @Buck is the announcer for the Chiefs game.” Started by X user @bobslazer “He's going to find every chance he can to push KC into the corner,” he said Sunday.
Yes, Buck covered the Chiefs this season, but Sunday's telecast belonged to CBS Sports and the tandem of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo — “Monday Night Football” play-by-play broadcaster cheekily did something attracted the attention of detractors.
“Yeah! Almost ready to go. It's cold here in KC. @tonyromo and I are going to see who will play the Eagles on SB LIX. Be sure to check out @NFLonCBS.” Buck answered.
CBS' coverage of Kansas City's 32-29 victory over Buffalo was not disputed, as Nantz said the flag was thrown and accompanying yellow graphics were broadcast at key moments in the fourth quarter. Not that it was.
Nantz later clarified the mix-up.
“There were reports of flags being raised from the sideline,” Nantz said. “But there were no flags. There were no penalties at all.”
Buck, 55, joined ESPN in 2022, teaming with his longtime on-air partner Troy Aikman at Fox.
The Foxes' new team of Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady will be called up when the Chiefs face the Eagles in the 2025 Super Bowl.
ESPN plans to broadcast the big game in two years.
The Chiefs are chasing Super Bowl history as they aim to become the first winning team to complete a three-peat.
This year's Super Bowl also serves as a rematch of the championship game from two years ago, when the Chiefs defeated the Eagles, 38-35.
The 2025 Super Bowl will begin on February 9th at 6:30pm at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
