Mitchell Tinsley’s Impressive Performance

In the recent game against the Washington Commanders, Joe Burrow showcased not only his star receivers, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but also highlighted another player vying for a spot on the team: Mitchell Tinsley.

Tinsley, now in his third year, started his career as an undrafted free agent with Washington before spending last season on the Cincinnati practice squad. In the preseason matchup, he impressively caught five passes for 73 yards, including a touchdown. What really stood out, though, was how he created those opportunities along with his overall skills on the field.

For instance, during his second reception—a 23-yard catch from Jake Browning—Tinsley adjusted to reach a tight spot against Bobby Price. By escaping the line with a smooth release, he was able to beat Price’s defensive position, creating space that allowed Browning to deliver a perfectly timed throw.

His third reception turned out to be his first touchdown of the night. He executed a vertical route down the left sideline, skillfully using his body to secure the catch. It was a testament to his impressive body control and ability to track the ball.

In football, winning catch points is crucial, and Tinsley did just that. His touchdown exemplified what it means to “high point” the ball, showcasing his skills as a receiver.

Tinsley also earned the title of captain for this game against his former team, which Cincinnati head coach Zach Taylor recognized afterward. Taylor mentioned how various players have stepped up during training camp, specifically noting Tinsley and linebacker Joe Giles-Harris as standout performers.

“He’s just putting in the work and earning respect in the locker room,” Taylor said. “I’m proud of him. It must feel special for him to return to this field and play like he did.”

As for Burrow’s thoughts on Tinsley making the final 53-man roster, he expressed hope that would be the case. “I certainly hope so,” he replied when asked about Tinsley’s chances. Given his performance, it’s clear Tinsley is making a strong case for himself.
