Joe Burrow’s Injury Puts Bengals in a Tough Spot
The Cincinnati Bengals may be facing a significant challenge with their standout quarterback, Joe Burrow. He played against the Jacksonville Jaguars despite dealing with a toe injury and, according to reports, there are concerns about the severity of this issue. It seems he might have sustained a third-degree turf toe, an injury that usually leads to surgery and a long recovery time.
The Bengals have sent images of Burrow’s injury to a foot specialist, Dr. Robert Anderson, to determine if surgery is necessary. If that’s the case, Burrow could be sidelined for up to three months, which, well… that’s almost the entire regular season.
While the team confirmed the toe injury, no final decision regarding surgery has been released. The injury occurred during the second quarter after Burrow was hit by Arik Armstead. He expressed his frustration by slamming his helmet into the ground following the hit.
After the incident, backup quarterback Jake Browning entered the game. Burrow didn’t return, instead heading to the locker room for evaluation. Browning led the Bengals to a last-minute comeback, scoring a touchdown and sealing a 31-27 win.
Cincinnati managed to start the season strong at 2-0, but fans are understandably anxious about Burrow’s recovery. Last season, despite a stellar year where Burrow led the NFL with nearly 5,000 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, the team missed the playoffs.
Injuries have been a persistent issue for the 28-year-old quarterback. He previously tore multiple ligaments in his left knee back in 2020 and dealt with torn wrist ligaments in 2023.
While the Bengals are expected to make an announcement about Burrow’s status soon, it’s likely he will be out for at least next week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
