Joe Flacco Joins Bengals After Browns Trade
Joe Flacco will don a new uniform this Sunday, having recently been traded from the Cleveland Browns to their rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals.
Multiple reports surfaced on Tuesday indicating that Cincinnati secured Flacco along with a sixth-round pick in the upcoming draft, while Cleveland received a fifth-round pick in return.
During a press conference on Friday, Flacco shared his thoughts after settling in Cincinnati. He spoke about his motivation for continuing to compete in the NFL, emphasizing the importance of making the most of his opportunities.
“You only get one chance to play in the NFL. I feel like I’ve worked hard to become a guy that can play at this level, and I don’t want to take that for granted,” said the 40-year-old quarterback. He expressed a desire to reflect on his career positively in the future.
This week has certainly been a whirlwind for Flacco, who has been named the Bengals’ starter for Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers. He commented on the unpredictable nature of the profession, noting, “It’s a crazy job. You’ve got to be ready for anything.” He admitted that this trade wasn’t anticipated but accepted the situation wholeheartedly. “I love playing football. If it’s in Cincinnati right now, I’m all for it,” he added.
The Bengals, facing challenges after star quarterback Joe Burrow injured his toe in the season opener, sought to bolster their quarterback lineup. With Burrow having undergone surgery last month, there’s a chance he might return later in the season.
Flacco mentioned he has been in touch with Vallow, who was also injured. He feels confident in what he brings to the team, stating, “I feel like I have a lot to offer the football team. I’ve worked hard to reach this point and believe I can still perform at a high level.”
Although Flacco had a tough run with the Browns, logging a 1-3 record in four starts, he did lead a memorable comeback win against the Packers. Now, he faces them again this Sunday.
Dillon Gabriel has been named the Browns’ starter for Week 5, with Shedule Sanders moving up to backup following Flacco’s departure.
