Joe Gruters, endorsed by Trump, will officially become RNC chair on Friday

Joe Gluters Elected New RNC Chairman

ATLANTA, Ga. — On Friday, Joe Gluters, a close ally of President Trump, was elected as the new chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

The RNC committee members chose Gluters, who has Trump’s backing, for the leadership role. Gluters, a Senator from Florida, currently serves as the Sunshine State’s RNC Commissioner and is the treasurer of the Nationalist Party Committee. He will succeed Michael Whatley, who is stepping down to run for a Senate seat in North Carolina.

In a social media post before the election, Trump expressed his support, saying, “There are people who do great work as chairman of the RNC. His name is Joe Gluters, and he will have my full support.”

Trump’s Influence in the RNC

Gluters, who co-chaired Trump’s campaign in Florida in 2016, has been a staunch supporter. Trump referred to him as “a fierce advocate for our movement.” The 48-year-old Gluters previously served as Florida GOP Chair from 2019 to 2023 and was credited with securing historic victories across the state.

According to an RNC insider, Gluters has highlighted a rise in Republican voter registration in Florida during his leadership. He expressed a desire to transform Florida from a competitive state into a solid Republican stronghold. The insider mentioned, “He won the Republican race, got the votes, and protected the votes in Florida,” though they chose to remain anonymous for candidness.

Gluters’ appointment reinforces Trump’s influence over the National Party Committee. A source noted, “The Republicans are united under President Trump, which is a stark contrast to the Democrats.”

Following Trump’s election as president, he appointed Ronna McDaniel as RNC chair, who was re-elected in 2019 and 2021. However, after a fallout with her, Trump supported Whatley as her replacement. Whatley was elected to lead the RNC conference last March, and Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was named co-chair.

Whatley’s Senate Bid

Whatley recently announced his Senate candidacy in North Carolina, emphasizing Trump’s need for an ally and the state’s need for a conservative voice in the Senate. The race is expected to be highly competitive and costly. “We’ll be the most expensive Senate race in the country’s history,” he mentioned, expressing confidence in raising the necessary resources.

Gluters has a solid background as an accountant and spent about ten years in the Florida state legislature. While he has worked closely with Trump’s campaign manager for the 2024 presidential run, he has reportedly had disagreements with Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, particularly during the 2024 Republican presidential nominations. Gluters supported Trump over DeSantis during that race.
