Joe Kent Responds to FBI Investigation
Joe Kent, who previously served as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, addressed the FBI’s investigation against him on Friday.
The FBI is looking into Kent over allegations that he leaked classified information to unauthorized parties. During an appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show, he insisted there was no wrongdoing on his part and expressed confidence in his commitment to preventing a conflict with Iran.
“I’m not worried about the alleged leak because I know I did nothing wrong,” Kent stated. “Of course, I’m concerned because we’ve seen how the FBI acts against individuals who speak out. So that part is a bit troubling, but I believe the truth and facts are on my side. The key questions we should focus on are why we find ourselves in this situation and how we can resolve it.”
Although he resigned recently, Kent mentioned that he hadn’t been made aware of the investigation prior to his departure on Tuesday. He attributed his resignation to U.S. military actions in Iran, asserting there was never a clear threat to the United States.
“I had access to top-secret information. I submitted my resignation to the White House and even spoke with President Trump. Until the next day, when I made my resignation public, I was serving fully as the director,” he explained. “I was completely in the dark about the investigation.”
Kent further articulated that there was no actual threat, noting that the U.S. only approved Operation Epic Fury after learning of Israel’s intentions to attack. He conveyed to Tucker Carlson, co-founder of the Daily Caller News Foundation, that Iran was never close to obtaining nuclear weapons.
In his resignation letter, Kent criticized the “misinformation campaign” by Israeli officials and American lobbyists, claiming it had undermined President Donald Trump’s America First agenda.
Both President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance expressed relief at Kent’s resignation, indicating he had opposed the administration’s decisions.
