Joe Namath called to say goodbye to Pittsburgh’s legendary sports voice on his final show.
Ron Cooke announced earlier this week that he is retiring after more than 40 years as a writer and more than 30 years as a radio host.
Cook has been an admirer of Namath since growing up in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and when co-host Joe Starkey brought him on, he said how great it would be to have him appear on his final show. .
“Ron, you’re a good person and I’m glad we got to spend this time together,” Namath said over the phone.
Others who said goodbye to Cook over the past week include Steelers great “Mean” Joe Greene, Kentucky basketball head coach John Calipari and former Red Sox manager Terry. They included Mr. Francona, who is also from the neighborhood.
93.7 The Fan has been Mr. Cook’s home since the station opened 14 years ago.
“I’ve been looking forward to this week for a long time, and I’ve been dreading it for a long time,” Cook said when announcing his retirement earlier this week. Reported by Bullet Sports Media.
