Joe Rogan Discusses His Absence from Golden Globe Nominations
Joe Rogan recently shared why he wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe this year, which stirred some conversation. On the latest episode of his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” he explained the situation.
Rogan, 58, mentioned that he was asked to pay $500 to even be considered for a nomination, which he described as a fee meant for paperwork or something similar. He decided to decline the offer, expressing, “I don’t want to be a part of that.”
Oddly enough, despite “The Joe Rogan Experience” being among the top podcasts across platforms like Spotify, Apple, and YouTube, it was not nominated for the newly introduced category for Best Podcast at this year’s Golden Globes.
Instead, the nominees included Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang,” along with other notable podcasts like “Smartless,” “Armchair Expert,” and “Call Her Daddy.” Poehler ultimately won the award.
Rogan had some mixed feelings about Poehler’s win: “I’m sure it’s good. It won. I’m sure someone will like it,” he said. He also noted the discontent surrounding the award, since Poehler had only been doing her podcast for about six months. “That’s great, she gave a podcast to a famous person,” he remarked, hinting at the industry’s tendency to favor established names.
Rogan made it clear that he didn’t intend to pay the entry fee at all, even after initially considering it. He pointed out that he doesn’t care about awards, questioning the legitimacy of a group that suddenly decides to present one. “All I know is that I didn’t submit,” he added, reiterating his indifference toward the award ceremony.
Interestingly, Rogan noted that he’s already achieved considerable success with his podcast, having been ranked number one for six consecutive years. “Are you suddenly going to have a contest in front of a bunch of people in tuxedos and say I’m not number one?” he asked, reflecting on the absurdity of the situation.
He mentioned that his status doesn’t rely on a trophy, yet he asserted, “I am number one.” Rogan’s sentiments echoed a broader criticism of the Golden Globes, especially from other celebrities, like Bill Maher, who took aim at the new podcast category. Maher called out the awards as being overly politically correct, noting that Rogan’s absence was particularly striking.
