Joe Scarborough Directly Questions Jamie Raskin on Why His Party Waited to Demand Epstein File Release

Raskin Discusses Epstein Records on MSNBC

On Thursday, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough questioned Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin about why the Democratic Party didn’t request the release of files related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during their time in power. Scarborough noted that Democrats, led by California Representative Ro Khanna, had attempted to pass a resolution that would compel Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all related records, but House Republicans blocked this effort in a procedural vote on Tuesday.

During the “Morning Joe” segment, Scarborough challenged Raskin’s timing in calling for the release of these files, suggesting that Democrats could have taken action when President Biden assumed office. “But, Congressman, why didn’t the Democrats request that from 2021 to 2025 when they ruled the DOJ?” Scarborough asked.

Raskin responded, mentioning the need to examine the decisions made by specific prosecutors and the context of other cases at that time. “We can try to rebuild that record, but the point is that Donald Trump led the charge, and Epstein is central to this broader narrative, with many connections to others in the Department of Justice,” he stated.

He further noted that there seems to be a “bipartisan consensus” within the House Judiciary Committee regarding the need for the release of all Epstein-related records.

Both Democrats and Republicans have been scrutinizing Bondi, given that the DOJ and the FBI found no evidence to support the claim that Epstein did not commit suicide in 2019, and that he possessed a so-called “client list.” Bondi suggested there’s a list on her desk, hinting at its existence.

At a cabinet meeting on July 8, Bondi indicated that she couldn’t release additional footage related to the Epstein case due to its inclusion of sensitive material. She also resisted answering questions about Epstein during a recent press conference.

Meanwhile, former President Trump expressed that Bondi should publish “anything she believes is trustworthy” concerning Epstein. He asserted that she was doing a “great job” and urged the public to move past the Epstein saga.

Trump also accused Democrats of fabricating a “Jeffrey Epstein hoax,” comparing it to the Russiagate investigations, which he claimed were false allegations against his 2016 campaign’s supposed collusion with Russia. He further suggested that many Republicans had been “deceived” by Democratic narratives.
