Injury Strikes Again for Commanders’ Quarterback
Washington Commanders fans recently had a tough moment when their quarterback, Jaden Daniels, suffered a dislocated left elbow during a game. This kind of injury is becoming all too familiar for the franchise, as others like Joe Theisman, Robert Griffin III, and Alex Smith have dealt with similar fates.
Sadly, this marks the third time this season Daniels has had to sit out due to injuries—his first two absences were due to hamstring issues. After a promising appearance in the NFC Championship during his rookie year, Daniels’ recent injury has thrown a wrench in the team’s plans for the season.
Even with the season winding down, former player Joe Theisman emphasized that the team should only return Daniels to the field when he’s completely cleared to play. He articulated a crucial point about the importance of conditioning: “It’s vital for him to be 100 percent medically OK to avoid further injuries.”
Theisman also noted that even though Daniels is just in his second year, playing time is essential for his development. “You really can’t learn how to manage situations if you’re not out there on the field,” he mentioned during an interview. Working through those game scenarios, including anticipating defenses and learning to safeguard oneself, plays a big role in a quarterback’s growth.
The “protect yourself” advice resonates quite a bit, especially for a player like Daniels, who relies heavily on his running skills. Theisman stressed this point, saying, “Young quarterbacks need to remember that they can’t always expect protection from the rules.” He added, “Get out of bounds, slide, throw it away. Focus on the next play since injuries don’t teach you anything.”
Theisman went on to discuss other quarterbacks like Jackson Dart and Anthony Richardson, who also face similar challenges. Moving forward, it’s crucial for these players to be smarter about their running and protective measures on the field. Injuries can come suddenly, especially in high-stakes moments.
Interestingly, the team hasn’t placed Daniels on injured reserve yet, which some fans might see as a glimmer of hope for a potential return sooner rather than later.
