Joel Houston’s AMXN Radio Breaks the Mold of Christian Music

The worship leaders who helped make United a global phenomenon are now stepping into unknown territory with deep personal and experimental projects. Joel Houston said Related magazines His latest venture is AMXN Radio (pronounced “Amen Radio”), a genre blue creative outlet that blends music, visuals and artistic experiments – as it relates, doesn't sound like a hill song.

“I wasn't trying to write a song for church services,” he said of AMXN Radio. “I was making music again for the love of it.”

The award-winning group filled United-Arena with such an anthem Me too (100 billion x) and From the inside – “I'm not going anywhere,” he said.

“We're in a bit of a limbo and waiting to clarify what the next chapter will look like,” Houston said.

On Instagram, Houston described AMXN Radio as a venture that produces “Prayer, Prayer for Music.”

“I sat in the studio myself, messed around, pressed buttons, tried things out. For a long time, I was relying on people who were far more talented than me.

The songwriting was “always a shelter for me,” he said.

“Even before anyone has heard my song, that's where I found God,” he said. “I tried all the prayer strategies. Nothing worked out like writing a song.”

“This whole movement is happening,” he says. “There are people like Josiah Aqueen, Forest Frank, who are making great music without worrying about whether it fits in the 'Christian' box. ”

“I grew up in church, but there's a generation of artists who listen to everything, including country, hip hop, EDM, indie rock,” Houston said. “They want to make music that reflects all of that, but many of them believe that the only way to do that is to leave Christian music in full.”
