Hunter used careful language in his opening statement Wednesday ahead of the House impeachment inquiry, insisting that Joe Biden, 81, had no involvement in his business.
Hunter did not specifically say that Joe Biden was not involved in the business. “I didn’t involve my father in my business,” he claimed.
“For over a year, your committee has cornered me in a partisan political pursuit of my father. You have ignored clear and convincing evidence staring you in the face. , trafficked in innuendo, distortion and sensationalism,” Hunter said. “There is no evidence to support this baseless MAGA-motivated conspiracy regarding my father, because there is none.”
Mr. Hunter continued to insist that he was a victim and that the impeachment inquiry misrepresented his business activities.
Over the last year, Republicans have taken my communications out of context and relied on doctored documents and select pieces of financial and other records to misrepresent what actually happened. Examples of this include several references to my family in emails and texts I sent during the darkest days of my addiction. If you try to do the same thing again today, my answer will reveal your tactics and prove the truth that my father is not involved in my business at all.
My testimony today should put an end to this baseless and destructive political farce. You wasted precious time and resources attacking me and my family for your own political gain when we should be solving the real problems in this country that desperately need your attention. .
