Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs get into heated confrontation after Clash at the Coliseum race

NASCAR stars Joey Logano and Ty Gibbs engaged in a heated showdown Saturday night at the Busch Lite Clash at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

The problem stemmed from Logano’s move to get around Gibbs as he tried to take the lead. Gibbs led 84 laps, but spun and was unable to return to the top of the pack. Logano finished 4th and Gibbs 18th.

Gibbs and Logano were seen screaming at each other in the Monster Energy trailer.

After the intense moment, the driver of the No. 54 car told reporters:

“He’s just mad that I cornered him.” Gibbs said via FOX Sports.. “When you go back and look at the replays, No. 12 (Ryan Blaney) also pushes him out of the way. It’s going to be a tough race at the end. This place is very hard to warm up the tires when the caution comes out. It was difficult, and as you can see, everyone was sliding around. I just went deep in there and washed up inside him. After that, we all got tangled up.”

Gibbs said Logano then came up to him and said “a bunch of different things.”

Logan did not comment directly on the incident, but spoke about the grueling nature of short track and exhibition racing.

“A lot of times in racing you’re looking at an eye for an eye and being asked to explain what happened,” Logano said. Via Motorsport.com. “A mistake is a mistake. This obviously helps a lot, but I’ve been in both positions.

“I got Kyle last year, so… it’s part of the race here and you try not to do that because you know, yeah, there’s a bigger race coming up. But sometimes you get in a bad position. Sometimes you just make a mistake. That can happen, too. Or you’re just downright offensive to do something like that. I don’t know.”
