Brennan Criticized for Comments on Iran
Former CIA Director John Brennan faced backlash from the White House and social media on Tuesday for his remarks implying that Iran might be more credible than President Trump.
Brennan was part of a group of 51 ex-intelligence officials who previously claimed that the Post’s revelation about Hunter Biden’s laptop was a “Russian intelligence operation.” During a segment on MS NOW, he questioned Trump’s assertions about ongoing negotiations with Tehran to resolve the conflict.
MS NOW host Simone Sanders expressed skepticism about trusting Iran, considering it an authoritarian regime known for dishonesty, and probed Brennan for his thoughts. “Well, I’m more inclined to believe in Iran than Donald Trump,” he stated.
Brennan went on to criticize Trump, labeling him as “cheating” and suggesting that he wouldn’t genuinely negotiate with representatives from the Iranian government.
Currently under scrutiny for a “treasonous conspiracy” connected to unsubstantiated claims of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia prior to the 2016 election, Brennan was accused of disregarding the president’s statements while siding with Iran.
White House press secretary Anna Kelly remarked, “It’s shameful that a regime characterized by its longstanding animosity towards the United States is being taken at face value.” She attributed this to what she termed “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Additionally, White House aide Patrick Adams commented on social media, pointing out Brennan’s past as Obama’s CIA director and asserting he was siding with Iranian extremists against the U.S.
Social media users also chimed in, with one joking, “When John Brennan says he doesn’t trust Trump, it actually makes me want to trust him!” Others criticized Brennan’s role in the “Russiagate hoax” and labeled him as one of the “51 spies telling lies.”
Conservative commentator Steve Guest expressed his outrage, describing Brennan as “beyond parody,” and declared that he was protecting Iran, a notable sponsor of terrorism. Meanwhile, Stephen Bucci from the Heritage Foundation remarked that no rational person could take Brennan seriously.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration communicated a 15-point plan to Iran, aimed at ending the ongoing war, with Trump claiming that Iran has already accepted the key condition: halting its nuclear program.
