John Brennan was popular among anti-Trump media before becoming a focus of a DOJ investigation.

Former CIA director John Brennan is currently under investigation regarding his conduct during the 2016 Russian inquiry. He played a significant role in promoting the narrative surrounding Russian interference and other conspiracy theories against Trump as a contributor to MSNBC.

According to a source from the Justice Department, CIA director John Ratcliffe and Brennan discussed the possibility of prosecuting Brennan, due to alleged misconduct linked to the 2017 Russian conspiracy investigation.

Brennan, who served from March 2013 until Trump took office in 2017, was active during his last year, particularly in launching the “Crossfire Hurricane” probe into Trump’s campaign connections with Russia during the election cycle.

Trump has suggested that Brennan, whom he referred to as a “bent like hell” turtle, might have to “pay the price” in light of the ongoing FBI investigation.

Brennan frequently appeared on CNN and MSNBC throughout 2017 and became an analyst for MSNBC and NBC News in March 2018. In one of his writings, he claimed Trump’s denial of conspiracy was “hogwash,” stating there remained questions about the legality of actions taken by Trump and his associates.

Despite the probe led by special advisor Robert Mueller—who found insufficient evidence of a criminal conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and Russia—Brennan expressed doubt about the adequacy of evidence concerning collusion.

Reports indicate that Brennan communicated with Obama and other national security officials about the “Clinton Project,” which intended to counter Trump’s candidacy and purportedly involved Russian misinformation tactics. Although he publicly supported the legitimacy of allegations against Trump in 2019, Brennan’s role and comments during the investigation have come under scrutiny.

Even after the investigation’s conclusion and criticisms of his past statements, Brennan has remained active in media discussions. He has previously claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story bore signs of Russian disinformation, which later turned out to be authentic.

Meanwhile, Brennan’s recent inquiries have surfaced alongside a review of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, suggesting that there were procedural irregularities in how the assessment was created. This review also indicated that Brennan had a hand in including disputed documents that undermined the integrity of the assessment.

Following the investigation news, Brennan appeared on MSNBC expressing disbelief that individuals would compromise their credibility over politically charged issues related to Trump.
