John Cleese from Monty Python raises concerns about hosting the World Cup in the US due to ICE's presence in Minnesota.

Actor John Cleese, known for his role in Monty Python, has raised concerns about hosting the World Cup in the United States following the shooting of a woman in Minnesota by an ICE officer.

According to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Renee Good was killed while driving a vehicle from which officials asked her to exit. Noem claimed Good refused and allegedly attempted to run down the officers.

However, Cleese disagrees with Noem’s account. He pointed out that an arrest occurred in Minneapolis shortly after Good’s death.

He questioned whether it was wise for FIFA to hold the tournament in a country where he believes the rule of law is in jeopardy. “Is it a good idea to host a major event like the FIFA World Cup in a country where the rule of law no longer exists?” Cleese posted on X.

Former President Donald Trump has even threatened to prohibit the game in U.S. cities he considers unsafe.

Cleese’s opinion gained traction as tennis great Martina Navratilova shared his post among other critical remarks about ICE.

Noem characterized Good’s actions leading to the incident as “acts of domestic terrorism,” defending the officers’ response as necessary for their safety and that of others.

Latest updates on the Minneapolis ICE shooting incident:

Democratic leaders have called attention to this event as a case of excessive violence associated with the Trump administration. Hillary Clinton pointed out that numerous Minnesotans gathered in protest of Good’s killing in the same area where the incident occurred.

At a press event, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey demanded that ICE leave the city, a sentiment echoed by Rep. Ilhan Omar, who also urged the Department of Homeland Security to withdraw.

Before a Timberwolves game, a moment of silence was held for Good. In response, some attendees shouted anti-ICE sentiments, calling for the agency to leave.
