John Dean, former White House advisor to President Nixon, said in an interview on Saturday. The New York hush-money criminal trial against former President Donald Trump was described as “very powerful” ahead of this week’s much-anticipated testimony from Trump’s former fixer Michael Cohen.
Dean said something like this CNN interview He said he has read the trial record and believes prosecutors have presented a strong case that can stand alone independently of Cohen’s testimony.
“This is a very strong case brought by the government in New York,” he said. “They really filled in a lot of blanks and set up a system where Michael Cohen could come in and testify.”
“And he’s already pretty much corroborated, not just by documents, but by other witnesses who don’t necessarily have a grindstone,” Dean continued. “So they laid a real foundation for next week.”
On Monday, President Trump’s former personal lawyer faced him again in a Manhattan courtroom.
Mr. Cohen took the stand in Mr. Trump’s hush money lawsuit and is a key witness for prosecutors in the case accusing Mr. Trump of falsifying 34 business records over a $130,000 hush money lawsuit. Candidates for 2016.
Ever since Mr. Cohen announced his desire to meet Mr. Trump in prison, there has been a consistent effort to paint Mr. Cohen as an unreliable witness. But Dean said he still expects Cohen to be a strong witness.
On whether Cohen’s testimony could be tainted by his grudge against Trump, Dean said: The fact that there’s a grudge match going on here doesn’t mean the jury won’t believe him. ”
“It’s going to be a little bit more of a burden on him to be convincing. But I’ve seen Michael testify before a House committee a few years ago, and he’s very effective as a witness. He was excellent. They tried to impeach him, the Trump supporters on the panel tried to impeach him, but it didn’t work. He has charisma. Ta.
“I think he’s very brave in what he’s doing, and I think people would recognize that. It’s not easy to run against the Trump campaign, especially when the campaign is still going on.” added Dean.
