John Elway’s friend’s death officially classified as an accident

Jeff Sperbeck, a longtime agent and close friend of NFL icon John Elway, tragically passed away, with authorities attributing his death to an accident.

A coroner’s investigation revealed that Sperbeck sustained blunt force trauma to the head after falling from a moving golf cart in La Quinta, California, on April 26th.

The incident took place at the Madison Club, where Elway was reportedly driving the cart.

The sheriff’s statement indicated that the cause of death was blunt head injuries, categorized as an accident due to a passenger falling from the cart. No signs of foul play or mechanical issues were discovered surrounding the death of the 62-year-old.

Following the accident, Elway’s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, discussed the situation with a Denver news outlet, expressing his condolences to Sperbeck’s family. “This is a terrible time for all involved, and our thoughts are with the Sperbeck family. We appreciate the work of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department as John grapples with this unimaginable loss,” he said.

Steinberg added, “Investigations pretty much confirmed what we expected. This is a tragic accident that can occur in ways we may never fully comprehend.”

Elway expressed profound grief over the loss, stating, “I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the death of my best friend, business partner, and agent Jeff Sperbeck.” He continued, “Words can’t capture the deep sorrow I feel over losing someone so significant in my life. My heart goes out to Jeff’s wife, Kori, and his children, Carly, Sam, and Jackson. Jeff has brought immense loyalty, wisdom, friendship, and love into my life and many others, and he will be deeply missed.”

Sperbeck had a distinguished career in the NFL as an agent, representing more than 100 players and co-founding the Hall of Fame Elway and the wine brand 7Cellars.
