Sen. John Fetterman, Democrat of Pennsylvania, went head-to-head with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over the party's devastating loss in the 2024 election.
Mr. Fetterman commented in an interview President Joe Biden wrote in Politico after being asked whether he should have dropped out of the race after his disastrous debate with President-elect Donald Trump.
“Scolding them harder or clutching their pearls harder will never work for Democrats.”
“People like [Nancy] Pelosi, she meant it – what are the words I'm looking for? — She accepted that “She is the Godmother and she is the Executor.” And now she's blaming Biden,” Fetterman said.
“Well, you can't take sides. You got what you wanted,” he said, referring to Biden's ouster and Kamala Harris' inauguration. “And yet you guys are now… are also criticizing Biden.”
The Democratic Party has splintered into various rival factions, blaming each other for failing to take back the House, losing the Senate and being trampled by Trump in the presidential election. Pelosi argued that Biden should not have immediately endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting that decision led to her ignominious defeat.
“I think it's really ironic that an 84-year-old woman is still going strong. Why not give the younger generation a chance to take that seat?” he added.
He also defended Trump supporters from accusations by Harris and other Democrats that they are “fascists” because of their political beliefs.
“I absolutely love people who are going to vote for Trump. They're not fascists. They're not like that. Once the tickle switch is turned on and they use words like that, it's hard to backtrack. “I think it's a little difficult 'about that kind of thing,'” he continued.
“It's a word that's not really part of the everyday vocabulary for voters. Scolding harder or clutching your pearls tighter is never going to work for Democrats,” Fetterman concluded.
Other Democratic celebrities who have reprimanded Pelosi for criticizing Biden include Whoopi Goldberg and “The View's” Ana Navarro.
“Why, Nancy, why? I think this is so counterproductive, so offensive, so unnecessary. She wants to make sure people know it's not theirs.” ,” Navarro said. “I think it's really shameful.”
