Sen. John Fetterman Critiques Democrats and Liberal Activists
Senator John Fetterman, representing Pennsylvania, voiced his skepticism towards Democrats and liberal activists during a recent interview.
A protester arrested over the weekend for opposing President Donald Trump criticized Fetterman for not participating in the event, accusing Democrats of “rolling over and dying.” In response to Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C., which marked the 250th anniversary of the U.S. military, Fetterman suggested on Fox News’ “American Newsroom” that the Democratic Party often attacks its own members.
“I think it’s clear that two things can be true: supporting Israel and ensuring a safe border are priorities for me, and that’s why I refused to support shutting down the government. It seems odd to me why Democrats would boo one another; I suppose it’s their privilege now,” he remarked. He emphasized that the military personnel involved are not there to act as occupying forces.
In a post on social media, Fetterman described the U.S. Army Parade as a “proper” means of honoring the military’s “sacrifice, dedication, and service.”
Fetterman has openly criticized anti-ICE riots and has been an ardent supporter of Israel, as well as the only Democrat backing Attorney General Pam Bondy’s confirmation. He also voted in favor of a Republican-backed bill in March, aimed at providing government funding.
Recently, the senator expressed his dissatisfaction with how the Democratic Party has managed the U.S.-Mexico border under former President Biden, calling the record encounters reported on June 2 “unacceptable” and a risk to national security. He also co-hosted the Laiken Riley Act, which mandates federal detention of illegal immigrants accused of theft-related offenses.
However, Fetterman’s approval among Democratic voters has waned lately. A recent survey revealed that 49% of voters in the Pittsburgh area feel disadvantaged by his representation. Some Republicans, including Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick, have defended Fetterman amidst concerns over his mental and physical health, denouncing the Democrats’ treatment of him as “disgraceful.”
