John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen reveal their growing friendship with the Giants

New Leadership for the Giants with Harbaugh and Schoen

John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen are definitely ready to dive into their roles and start revitalizing the Giants.

During the Giants’ search for a head coach, there were whispers that someone of Harbaugh’s caliber might prefer a different general manager than Schoen. But that never materialized.

Shane proved to be crucial in bringing the Super Bowl champion to New York. When Harbaugh and his wife, Ingrid, made their first appearance at the Giants’ facility on Monday night, it seemed like they were on the verge of forming a strong partnership.

The Giants shared a video and pictures of Shane welcoming the couple at their headquarters. In particular, there were two images that stood out, capturing moments between Harbaugh and Schoen.

One photo featured them shaking hands enthusiastically, possibly even sharing a brotherly hug. Another caught Schoen playfully pointing at Harbaugh while laughing.

Now, both Harbaugh and Schoen will report directly to co-owner John Mara. This setup will differ from previous coaching arrangements within the organization.

Harbaugh was also seen entering his new office ahead of his first press conference on Tuesday.

The Giants made a significant effort to secure Harbaugh, who had just completed 18 seasons with the Ravens. Baltimore faced a disappointing exit from the playoffs after a loss to the Steelers, losing a chance at the AFC North title due to a missed field goal.

At 63 years old, Harbaugh boasts a .614 winning percentage during the regular season. After extensive discussions with the Giants on Wednesday, he agreed to join the team later that night, finalizing a five-year, $100 million deal on Saturday afternoon.

Despite Schoen’s record of 22-45-1 and just one playoff appearance during his five years, the Giants brought him back after parting ways with manager Brian Daboll midseason. The organization believed they had assembled a more talented roster than Schoen’s performance indicated, particularly in a season that saw him finish 4-13 despite having several leads in the fourth quarter.

However, core players like quarterback Jackson Dart, receiver Malik Nabors, running back Cam Scattabo, left tackle Andrew Thomas, and pass rushers Brian Barnes and Kayvon Thibodeau offer hope for the future.

Harbaugh expressed to Paul Schwartz that he is “motivated” to coach for the devoted Giants fan base.

With a promising start to their relationship, it seems that Harbaugh is eager to join Schoen in the quest for his second Super Bowl ring and the Giants’ fifth.
