Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana had some interesting advice for one of President Donald Trump's nominees during his confirmation hearing Wednesday.
Russell Vought, President Trump's nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget, held a second hearing Tuesday ahead of a confirmation vote. Mr. Vought previously worked at OMB during the first Trump administration, championing fiscal reform and fighting the administrative deep state.
“A lot of people also called Noah crazy. Then it started raining. And all the fact-checkers died.”
Kennedy, who expressed admiration for Vought's policy proposals and past performance in the first Trump administration, opened up about Genesis to offer advice to the candidate.
“You worked in Washington for many years,” Kennedy said. said Voted. “You're going to challenge the status quo. You're going to be called crazy.”
President Kennedy quipped, “Many people even called Noah crazy.'' “And then it rained. And all the fact-checkers died. We have to endure.”
Kennedy drew laughs several times during the scene, but the sentiment was true. Vought was heavily criticized by Democratic senators during the hearing, particularly for his involvement in Project 2025 and the creation of the conservative think tank Center for American Renewal.
“My opinion doesn't matter,” Vought said during the hearing. “I'm here on behalf of the president.”
