John Leguizamo Draws the Line on ICE Support
Actor John Leguizamo has made his stance very clear. Known for his roles in movies like “Moulin Rouge!” and “Romeo + Juliet,” he took to Instagram on Wednesday to deliver a strong message: if any of his fans support ICE, he would prefer they not follow him.
“If you follow ICE, don’t follow me, don’t come to my shows, don’t watch my movies,” he stated in a brief video, adding the powerful caption, “Abolish the ICE!”
Responses from his followers varied widely. Some fans showed support, with one calling him a “good person,” while another urged viewers to see “Romeo + Juliet.” However, criticism was also present. One comment questioned the relevance of his past films, stating, “Of course, let’s take a time machine and go back to the 90’s for a total of 2 movies.” Another suggested it didn’t matter that few people acknowledged his work.
Talk show host Joe “Pags” Pagliarulo reacted, telling Leguizamo he likely overestimates his influence, suggesting his position was thoughtless and potentially scripted.
Leguizamo is not the only celebrity weighing in on the ICE debate, especially following the recent shooting deaths of anti-ICE activists Renee Good and Alex Preti in Minneapolis. Other stars have also voiced their criticisms regarding the situation.
In an interview, actress Natalie Portman spoke about the current state of affairs under the federal government, denouncing the actions of ICE as “truly the worst of humanity.” Glenn Close expressed her outrage over similar issues on her Instagram, emphasizing her disgust with recent events.
Meanwhile, Dean Cain, appointed as an honorary officer by ICE, regularly posts support for law enforcement. In response to Ethan Hawke’s comments about fear in the current atmosphere, Cain joked, “Be a conservative, my friend.”
