John Mark McMillan Announces Final Tour
Christian music artist John Mark McMillan has shared that his upcoming fall tour will be his last, marking the end of a 20-year journey in music.
In an announcement on Instagram, he expressed, “There’s sad news. This will be my last tour.” He elaborated, saying, “Now is the time to enter a new phase in my life where music is not my full-time effort. I want to write a book, mentor a new generation of creatives, and focus on local projects.”
McMillan mentioned the pressures of the music industry and the challenges of finding sustainable income as significant factors in his decision. “I know what you’re thinking: Yes, the economy and the current state of the music industry,” he acknowledged. While he emphasized that money wasn’t his primary motivation, navigating a landscape where music often has little monetary value proved difficult.
However, he also made it clear that he isn’t seeking sympathy. “I understand the stress of life that everyone faces daily, but I feel it’s my time to alleviate some of that stress,” he stated.
He added, “I think it’s time to do that. At least for a while.” Despite stepping back, McMillan reassured fans that music will always have a place in his life. “I might attend some special events next year and join friends at shows, but after this fall tour, my touring days will at least pause for now.”
In his farewell message, he expressed heartfelt gratitude towards his fans for their unwavering support, especially as they gear up for his final tour. “It’s been a beautiful 20 years, and you were the best part. If possible, let’s make it to one of these final shows—I want to meet you. Thank you for your support and encouragement.”
His announcement was met with overwhelming support from fans and fellow Christian artists. One wrote, “I’m honored to be on your last ride with you. Man. Let’s tear it apart.” Another artist, Kings Kaleidoscope, simply shared hearts in solidarity.
Fellow musician Matt Carney expressed his appreciation for McMillan: “Love you, brother. You are a special person with unique ideas about music and its creators. It’s an honor to share the stage with you.”
McMillan’s music career began in 2002 with his debut album, “Hope Anthology, Volume 1,” followed by “The Song Inside: Sounds of Breaking Down” in 2005, the latter earning a Dove Award nomination in 2010 after being covered by David Crowder.
Over the years, he released several independent albums and established Lionhawk Records in 2014 with Josh Lujan Loveless. His album “Borderland,” released under this label, reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Christian Album Chart.
McMillan is married to Sarah, who collaborates with him, and together they have three children.
