Left-wing HBO comedian John Oliver is facing backlash after he “likened Israel to Nazis” while criticizing the Jewish state and its policies in a “disgraceful” rant.
his Last Week Tonight Sunday Show, Oliver criticized Israel, claiming that it was using the “never again” slogan arbitrarily in its current policies.
Midway through the segment, the longtime host brought up a frequently cited slogan in reference to the Jewish state, saying, “A phrase that’s often used in reference to Israel is ‘Never Again.’ It’s an anti-genocide slogan often cited in commemoration of the Holocaust, and it’s always been open to two interpretations.”

According to Oliver, Explained As the “liberal king of midnight,” one reading means “this must never happen again to the Jews,” and the other means “this must never happen again to any people, anywhere.”
The British-American comedian pointed to the current situation in Israel, saying, “In the West Bank, just like in Gaza today, it’s clear which side the Israeli government supports.”
Oliver also criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of trying to do what “the worst people around him and himself” want.
The talk show host, undulation Netanyahu’s domestic popularity is growing, mainly due to his opposition to Hamas and a Palestinian state, despite U.S. and domestic pressure.

He also ignored widespread anti-Semitic sentiment among Palestinians, who overwhelmingly support both Hamas and the October 7 massacre it instigated.

The HBO host described Israeli “settlements” as “illegal” and “immoral,” while also criticizing groups like Hamas and Hezbollah for their all Israeli cities are illegal “settlements”. It refuses to recognise the State of Israel in its entirety, criminalising its creation and existence, and considers every city and town within its borders to be part of the “occupied” Palestinian territory.
Oliver’s comments sparked backlash, with many responding swiftly.

Media watchdog Honest Reporting condemned Oliver’s “one-sided anti-Israel smear campaign”, expressed surprise at his views and questioned whether he was “really comparing Israel to the Nazis?”

One user criticized Oliver for discussing “the horrors of the separation wall” in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) but not “why Israel built it.”

During Israel’s 2021 war with Hamas, Oliver criticized Israel’s response to thousands of rockets fired by Palestinian Hamas terrorists, falsely accusing Israel of war crimes and claiming there is a “huge disproportionality” because Israel has the Iron Dome missile defense system, which allows it to target Palestinians more precisely.
The comments provoked a 10-year-old girl from Kfar Azza, an Israeli town near the border with the Gaza Strip that would later become “ground zero” for the Oct. 7 massacre by Hamas. respond.
