Country music artist John Rich says he is willing to perform at a “rager” for members of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s fraternity.
“I reached out and said, ‘Guys, I’m so proud of you guys. If there’s a hoodlum that you’re talking about on GoFundMe, I’d love to show up and do a free concert. I think.” Rich said Thursday. on NewsNation’s “On Balance” with host Leland Wittert. “And they fought back, so I think we’re going to make that happen.”
Members of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity prevented an American flag from being smashed to the ground during a protest on campus Tuesday.
A viral video shows members holding up flags as activists throw things, resulting in the creation of a GoFundMe for fraternity brothers called “Pi Kappa Pi Men Defended the Flag.” did. “Throw them at Rager.” raised over $500,000.
“When I saw the UNC guys holding up the flag and being careful not to let it fall to the ground, it told me a lot about them,” Rich said.

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman, who has expressed disgust at recent pro-Palestinian protests, has donated $10,000 to GoFundMe.
In recent weeks, protests have erupted on university campuses across the country focusing on Palestinian human rights and the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip during the Israeli-Hamas war.
The protests have also faced accusations of anti-Semitism, which protesters have pushed back.
“We are frustrated by the media distractions that focus on demagogues who do not represent us,” Colombian protest leaders said in a statement last month. “Our members were misidentified by a politically motivated mob.”
“We categorically reject any form of hatred or bigotry and remain vigilant against non-students who seek to destroy the unity that has been built among students,” they continued. “Palestinian, Muslim, Arab, Jewish, Black and pro-Palestinian classmates and colleagues who represent the diversity of our country.”
