The legendary American actor’s love affair with America is told today in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas.

John Wayne: American Experience opened in December 2020 at the Forth Worth Stockyards. This museum is dedicated to the life of a legendary movie star, national icon, and unabashed patriot.

The museum is perfectly located for the actor, famous for starring in some of the biggest westerns of all time, including “Fort Apache,” “El Dorado,” and “Rio Bravo.”

It faces the Cowtown Coliseum, one of the nation’s premier rodeo venues, and is just steps away from Billy Bob’s Texas, an expansive nightclub and live music venue billed as the “World’s Largest Honky Tonk.”

“My father was very popular when he was alive and he’s still very popular today,” his son Ethan Wayne, part of the family that operates John Wayne Enterprises and the museum, told Fox News Digital.

“Every time you saw John Wayne, you went on an adventure with him, but you also saw him put self-respect above financial gain and make difficult decisions,” his son said. Ta. “He made moral choices, not wrong ones. Those lessons are interspersed with adventure, humor, toughness, and compassion.”

According to his son, Wayne had an American heart that combined fierce toughness with deep compassion. He brought both to movie screens around the world.

Wayne was born Marion Morrison in Iowa in 1907, and his father was a Civil War veteran. He grew up in California.

He was a star athlete at Glendale High School, strikingly handsome, an imposing 6-foot-4, and earned a spot on the University of Southern California football team.

After his athletic career was cut short due to injury, he focused on acting. Even though he was still a teenager, he had already gotten additional uncredited roles.

He had appeared in 36 films by the age of 25, and 100 more since then.

“John Wayne: The American Experience” includes performances from 1926’s “Baldellis the Magnificent,” his star performance in 1939’s “Stagecoach,” and his final film, 1976’s “The Gunners.” All of them are listed.

Wayne passed away in 1979 at the age of 72 after a battle with cancer.

The museum displays images and memorabilia spanning the actor’s career, giving insight into his life off-screen.

Wayne emerged as an extraordinary entertainment figure and American folk hero. He became a symbol of the nation itself, not only here in the United States but around the world.

In 1973, he received a Grammy Award from the recording industry for his performance on the spoken word album of poetry, “America, Why I Love Her.”

He also published a children’s book of the same name.

“You ask me why I love her? Well, give me time and I’ll explain. Have you ever seen a Kansas sunset or an Arizona rain? Have you ever drifted through a Louisiana cove? “Have you ever seen a cold fog drifting over San Francisco Bay?” Wayne exudes a moving burst of faith on the album’s title track.

At the end of the poem, he says, “Do you ask me why I love her? There are a million or so reasons. My beautiful America under God’s wide open sky.”

The lyrics were written by James Mitchum, brother of actor Robert, who co-starred with Wayne in the 1970 Western film Chisholm.

But they spoke deeply of Wayne’s own sincere belief in his nation, his people, and the unique opportunity afforded to millions of people around the world.

“He made that album through the trials and tribulations of the 1960s, believing that America is made up of all kinds of different people, all of whom have a lot in common,” Wayne said. Told.

“He believed he owed much of his success to America, and that belief really meant a lot to him.”

“Most of us come from different backgrounds, but we came here with a common goal and a common dream to be free and pursue our own happiness,” the son said.

“You know, he came from a pretty poor family, but he was able to be incredibly successful. He believed that he owed a lot of his success to America, and that Faith really meant a lot to him.”

John Wayne: An American Experience recently completed a 4,000 square foot expansion. Later this month, a three-day festival will be held until May 26 to celebrate the actor’s 117th birthday.

Ethan Wayne believes part of his father’s enduring popularity stems from the fact that many people see in him the personification of America itself.

“My father was intelligent and outspoken, but he also had an unusually bold personality,” his son said.

“He was a very kind, loving, very gentle person. But he had the ability to be harsh and violent when he needed to be. But he didn’t want to be if he didn’t have to be. was reliable, consistent, hard working, had a positive attitude and believed in right from wrong.”
