Johnny Depp shares unusual insights about his children Lily-Rose and Jack

Johnny Depp Reflects on Family and Past Relationships

Johnny Depp, at 62, proudly embraces his role as a family man. In a recent interview with Vanessa Paradis, his former partner, he shared insights about raising their two children, now aged 26 and 22.

During the conversation, Depp pointed out a drawing of his daughter, Lily-Rose, that hangs behind him. “This is a portrait of my daughter,” he said, adding that he never quite finished it. “She was 10 then, and now she’s 25.” He seemed to pause for a moment, perhaps contemplating how quickly time flies.

Reflecting further, he mentioned, “Year is running away from us, right?” It’s a sentiment that many can relate to, the feeling that time seems to slip through our fingers.

Depp and Paradis, together from 1998 until 2012, welcomed Lily-Rose in 1999 and Jack in 2002. Lily-Rose is making a name for herself in acting, known for her roles in “Idol” and “Nosferatu,” while Jack has been in the spotlight as a Paris bartender. They first raised their children on an estate near St. Tropez before relocating to Los Angeles.

When asked about what he misses, Depp reminisced about their childhood in southern France. “I was Dad,” he recalled fondly. “Suddenly, Dad went out the window.” It’s an interesting way of putting it, as if the persona of “Dad” was both comforting and overwhelming.

Currently, Depp has mostly separated himself from the U.S., dividing his time between the UK and the Bahamas. “That part of southern France really felt like home,” he mentioned, likely hinting at the simplicity and warmth of family life.

In a rare discussion about his tumultuous past with ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp shared his thoughts on love and vulnerability. “So what was my first deal with what we call love? Clearly insensitive,” he said, reflecting on how loving someone can sometimes lead to misunderstandings and hurt.

Their relationship ended in 2016 after less than two years of marriage, which was notably complicated and often in the public eye. The couple battled through a defamation trial stemming from Heard’s 2018 op-ed that, although not naming Depp, alluded to him as an abuser.

Ultimately, Depp won $10.35 million in damages while Heard received $2 million in her countersuit. After initially planning to appeal, she later settled and agreed to pay Depp $1 million.

As he spoke about the trial, Depp expressed concerns about trust. “If I don’t try to express the truth, then it feels like I’m being blamed, and my children have to live with that,” he remarked thoughtfully. “The night before the trial, I wasn’t nervous. If you’re telling the truth, just roll the dice.” It’s a perspective that echoes the importance of authenticity, even amid chaos.
