Johnny Depp was ‘freaked out’ by his sex-symbol status

Johnny Depp had a hard time accepting his rising star in Hollywood.

Depp, 61, admitted that he felt uncomfortable being on display in an upcoming, still untitled documentary episode about his longtime collaborator, Tim Burton.

In the four-part series, Depp recalls defeating Tom Cruise for the lead role in the '90s hit “Edward Thesausans,” when his bond with Burton began to flourish.

Depp and Burton have worked on many films ever since, but the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star initially questioned the director's interest in casting him in “Edward Thesauhands.”

“The first time I met, I realized that he wasn't saying too many words,” Depp said. “[Burton] Start writing, I go “Yes, right,” then we talk about Boris Karloff or something. We are involved on many levels. ”

He added, “After about three and a half hours of really great yaks, I still thought, 'No chance, man, no chance'.”

Depp finally realizes that Edward Sisolhands' character is loosely based on Burton's own personality, and is worried that Burton is not impressed.

“I was in the film and I was still walking into a family that was like a family that wasn't completely brought in,” Depp said. “I was absolutely sure I was playing it. Tim was rehearsing everyone else in the cast. Everyone. He's not me. He didn't rehearse me.

He finally realizes that Burton is deliberately continuing to isolate Depp from the cast so that he can understand Edward's isolated character.

“It was scary. I was an Uber fantasy,” Depp said. “why [Burton] Are you rehearsing me? Maybe he trusts me. No, he won't. He doesn't trust you, what are you? He's going to cast someone else, man. ”
